THE CAMERA LENS

A camera lens is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.A lens may be permanently fixed to a camera, or it may be interchangeable with lenses of different focal length, aperture and other properties.

Many people eager for a high end digital camera buy a digital SLR body and then ask the question of what lens to put on it. Often they seek a wide-range zoom to duplicate what they could do with a point and shoot digital camera.

Types of camera lenses:

  • Zoom Lenses- Zoom lenses are widely used for small-format cameras of all types
  • Enlarge lenses -  Made for photographic enlarger rather than camera
  • Close -up & macro lenses-  suitable for flat objects like stamps and for close images.
  •  Fisheye Lenses-
  • Swiel Lenses- rotate while attached to a camera body to give unique perspectives and camera angles.
  • Stereoscopic Lenses - To produce pairs of photographs with a 3 dimensional effect
  • Soft focus Lenses
  • Infrared lenses
  • ultraviolet lenses
  • Apochromat lenses- are used for extremely accurate photographs of static objects.
  • Process Lenses- are used for extremely accurate photographs of static objects.
